Pre-Assessment Consultation.

We can’t wait to meet you!

Your consultation appointment will be held at our clinic in O’Halloran Hill and is an opportunity to discuss your needs, observations and concerns with our psychologist.

The psychologist will ask questions and gather as much relevant information as possible about the child during this time. An appropriate assessment package will then be recommended for you, based on what is perceived to be most beneficial for you and the child.

Please note, standard wait times may apply for assessment bookings, following a consultation appointment.

Why might I want a consultation appointment?

  • There is not always a one size fits all when it comes to our children and many parents are unsure on exactly where to start or what type of assessment their child might need.

  • This is an opportunity for you to seek some guidance on what may be the most appropriate path forward, when considering an assessment for your child.

  • A meeting and an open discussion with our psychologist is the most effective way for our clinician to gather relevant information, specific to your child’s case.

  • It provides an environment for you to ask as many questions as you need or discuss concerns, allowing you to feel as comfortable about the assessment process as possible.

  • You may want to get to know our friendly team and welcoming clinic before bringing your child in for their assessment appointments.

What will be involved ?

During the consultation appointment, you will meet your assessing psychologist, who will ask you questions to gather detailed information regarding your child’s developmental, social, behavioural, emotional, physiological, and academic history.

Any of your requirements or concerns will be discussed and the clinician will gather any further relevant information. Together, you will develop a running hypothesis as to why your child may be experiencing particular challenges.

An appropriate assessment plan will then be recommended for you to investigate and address the questions that need answering or determine a diagnosis.

Only parents or caregivers are required to attend the consultation, although, you are more than welcome to bring children along if you wish.

If it is more suitable. we can easily arrange for this appointment to be held virtually.

Do I actually need the full session time?

When you book your consultation appointment, a time slot of 60 minutes will be automatically allocated.

Our clinician will be as efficient as possible during the appointment however, most sessions do require the full appointment duration as there is usually a lot to cover in this time.

In some cases, where a full session is not required, we will only charge you for a shorter length appointment being; $150 for 30 mins or $200 for 45 mins.

What should I bring?

For the initial appointment, nothing is absolutely necessary; however, any supporting documents that you have on hand will likely help with determining the assessment process.

For example, if you are seeking an assessment due to concerns around school, previous school reports or information from the teachers could be useful. If there are developmental concerns or concerns with the child presenting with characteristics of ASD, then early documentation from other practitioners, teachers or your child’s blue baby book might be useful.
