About the game.

Our social group is designed with young Autistic teens in mind and is facilitated in the format of a table top, RPG based, fantasy game.

Run by the 'Dungeon Master', our highly skilled Clinical Psychologist, this group is sure to have the young person thoroughly enjoying themselves all while actively participating in a social environment. But there‘s more! This is not just a social gaming group - While it may be a super fun game to our participants, the overarching purpose is aligned to specifically targeted and individual therapeutic goals.

During sessions, we utilise a fantastic core base game kit called Critical Core. Critical Core is a modified Dungeons and Dragons game, developed by Game to Grow to specifically support young people to engage in social scenarios through specifically targeted and curated challenges and missions. Game to grow is a nonprofit organisation, dedicated to the use of games of all kinds for therapeutic, educational, and community growth.

To ensure we are able to provide effective sessions, each group will consist of a maximum 4-5 individuals and will be supported by a Therapy Assistant, along-side the Psychologist.

"They have not yet stopped talking about the DND last night. They had an absolutely fantastic time and cannot wait for the next session. Thank you for carefully curating an incredible workshop and giving them a safe & inclusive space to be who they are. Utterly grateful & excited for the things to come!"

How could a DnD social group help?

Critical Core takes all of the elements of traditional evidence based manualised interventions (Social scripting, graded exposure, modeling, in vivo practice etc) and present it in a fun, subtle and engaging manner.

Engagement in group activities of this nature tend to be correlated with more confidence, more comfort interacting with peers, decreased anxiety like symptoms and more effective social flexibility as well as an increased ability to negotiate and compromise.

Is this group for us?

Our social group is currently open for young people aged 10-13years however, we will look to facilitate a wider age range as the program grows. This initiative is designed with neurodiverse individuals in mind, however this not an essential criteria.

If using NDIS funding to claim the term fees, your plan would need to include an allocation for Capacity Building Supports (most do). We are not a direct NDIS provider so unfortunately, agency managed NDIS funding is not able to be used for our services.
